Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers about creating QR codes, plans, analytics, API, Menu, and account features — based on how WebQR actually works.

Getting started

What is WebQR?

WebQR is a web platform for creating, managing, and analyzing QR codes. Core tools include:

  • Static and dynamic QR codes — many content types, with design customization (colors, style, logo)
  • Folders — organize QR codes and designs
  • Analytics — track scans, devices, and geography (history depth depends on your plan)
  • Cloud storage — files for dynamic QR (PDF, images, video, and more)
  • Static QR API — generate static QR codes programmatically
  • Workspaces — team collaboration on Business and Enterprise

GPS map tracking is available for dynamic QR codes inside a Business/Enterprise workspace (with organization name set), not for personal QR codes.

How do I create a QR code?

You can create a QR without an account on the public create page (home → Create).

Download rules:

  • Home mini builder (guests) — PNG, 512×512 only
  • Full create page without a paid subscription — PNG and JPG up to 1024×1024; SVG, PDF, EPS and sizes above 1024 require a paid plan
  • Paid plans — PNG, JPG, SVG, PDF, EPS and sizes up to 4096×4096

To save codes in the dashboard, use folders, analytics, dynamic QR, saved designs and templates — register and verify your email. Then:

  1. Register and verify email
  2. Choose type — static or dynamic
  3. Enter content
  4. Customize design — colors, style, logo
  5. Generate and download in an allowed format
  6. Save in the dashboard for management and analytics
What is the difference between static and dynamic QR codes?

Static QR codes encode the content directly (URL, text, Wi‑Fi, etc.). After you print them, you cannot change the destination — you need a new code.

Dynamic QR codes point to a WebQR page you control. You can edit content after printing, use analytics, and unlock plan features such as password protection, schedule/pause, and (on Business/Enterprise workspaces) GPS.

Choose static for fixed one-off use. Choose dynamic when you expect updates, tracking, or richer landing pages.

What types of QR codes are supported?

WebQR supports static and dynamic QR codes:

Static (content is fixed after creation/print):

  • URL / website links
  • Text
  • Wi-Fi
  • Phone, WhatsApp, SMS, Email
  • V-Card
  • Geo — location
  • Event — calendar event

Dynamic (content can change without reprinting):

  • URL, V-Card, Wi-Fi, Event
  • PDF, Images, Video, MP3
  • Business, Apps
  • Links, Target page, Instagram, Social
  • Coupon, Feedback, Rating

Paid plans (Premium, Business, Enterprise) increase quotas, extend analytics history, remove ads on scanned QR pages, and unlock higher-tier tools (workspaces, custom domains, GPS in workspaces, and more on Business).

How do I download a created QR code?

Supported file formats: PNG, JPG, SVG, PDF, EPS. You can also print from the browser (A4) — that is print, not a separate download file.

Sizes: 512×512, 1024×1024, 2048×2048, 4096×4096.

Access by plan:

  • Starter (no paid subscription) — PNG and JPG up to 1024×1024
  • Paid plans — all formats above, including SVG/PDF/EPS and resolutions above 1024
  • Home mini builder (guests) — PNG 512×512 only

Tips: print → PDF or high-res PNG/SVG; websites → SVG; social media → PNG or JPG.

Why do I need to verify my email?

For security and to prevent abuse, there is no access to the cabinet until your email is confirmed. Immediately after registration you only get the verification flow — dashboard sections, saving QR codes to your account, folders and other cabinet features are unavailable until you confirm your address. The public QR create page on the website (no login) remains available.

Confirm your address using the link in the email or the six-digit code on the verification page. After confirmation, the full cabinet opens and your limits follow your subscription plan.

Is WebQR safe to use?

WebQR provides a high level of security and data protection:

  • Encryption — all traffic uses secure HTTPS
  • Server-side generation — QR codes are generated on the server
  • Data storage — when saved, QR code content and settings are stored in the database, files in secure storage
  • Access control — your QR codes and folders are only accessible to you after logging in

Recommendation: Do not put confidential data (passwords, PINs, full card numbers) in QR codes.

Plans and Pricing

Is there a Starter plan?

Yes. Starter is free forever and includes, among other limits:

  • 10 dynamic QR, 50 static QR
  • 25 folders, 15 saved designs
  • 100 MB storage, 7 days of analytics history
  • 1,000 dynamic scans per month
  • 200 Static QR API generations per month (1 active API key)
  • PNG/JPG downloads up to 1024×1024

Paid plans raise these limits and unlock more features. See the Pricing page for the full comparison.

What are the main limits on each plan?

Key quotas (full details on Pricing):

  • Starter — 10 dynamic / 50 static QR 100 MB; 7 days analytics; 1,000 scans/month
  • Premium ($10/mo or $100/yr) — 80 dynamic / 100 static QR 1 GB; 12 months analytics; 50,000 scans/month
  • Business ($35/mo or $350/yr) — 150 dynamic / 150 static QR 2 GB; unlimited analytics history; 250,000 scans/month; workspaces, custom domains, GPS in workspaces
  • Enterprise ($130/mo or $1,300/yr) — 1,000 dynamic / 1,000 static QR 5 GB; unlimited analytics & scans; higher workspace and domain limits

Yearly billing = pay for 10 months (2 months free).

Is there a “Powered by WebQR” label?

WebQR does not place third-party ads on dynamic QR pages, or public tools. On some system info pages (pause, password gate, etc.) a “Powered by WebQR” label can appear on Starter.

How does the payment system work?

Monthly and yearly subscriptions are available (yearly — pay for 10 months, 2 months free).

Payment: bank cards (Visa, Mastercard) via Paddle.

Security: payment data is processed by Paddle; we do not store your card data on our server.

Currency and security

Subscription prices are in USD. Card payments for plans go through Paddle — we do not store card data on our servers.

Static QR API overage (usage beyond the included monthly quota) is billed separately via metered usage; you can set a spending cap in the API billing settings.

How does renewal work?

The subscription renews automatically at the end of the paid period (month or year). You can cancel auto-renewal at any time — the current paid period remains active until the end date.

What happens when switching between periods (month ⇄ year)?
  • Yearly → monthly: nothing is charged now. Access remains until the end of the paid year. First monthly payment — when that year ends. After that, the subscription renews monthly.
  • Monthly → yearly: full year payment is charged immediately; remaining days of the current month are preserved. The subscription switches to yearly, next payment — in one year.
What happens when switching between plan tiers?
  • Upgrade (e.g. Premium → Business): discount for unused days of current subscription; the plan card shows the final amount.
  • Downgrade (e.g. Business → Premium): new plan is paid in full, no discount for remaining days. Current subscription is cancelled, new one starts at payment.
  • Printed codes keep working: after a downgrade, existing dynamic QR codes continue to resolve. You cannot create new ones until you are within the new plan’s quota. On Starter, storage over the free allowance may still pause some media-heavy codes.
How do I cancel my subscription?

Cancel in the dashboard under Subscription anytime, without penalties:

  • Instant cancellation — via dashboard or support
  • Access retained — until the end of the paid period
  • Auto-renewal — turns off when you cancel

Important:

  • No refunds for the unused period
  • When the paid period ends, premium features stop
  • If usage exceeds Starter limits after the period ends, excess QR codes, and storage are blocked immediately, then deleted 30 days after blocking unless you renew/upgrade and fit within limits
  • You can renew anytime
How do folder limits work? Which plan limits apply?

Folder count depends on your plan. The account owner has one shared quota: personal QR, design, and short-link folders, plus QR and short-link folders in all active workspaces you own.

Maximum folders (total):

  • Starter — 25
  • Premium — 3,000
  • Business — 3,000
  • Enterprise — 3,000

The limit is not multiplied per workspace. Folders created by workspace members count against the owner’s quota. Design folders exist only in the personal account but still count toward the same total.

If you hit the limit, delete unused folders or upgrade.

What is “Uploads to library” and how does it work?

In the designer you can add a logo and a loading-screen image (shown while a dynamic QR page opens).

On Starter, uploads stay tied to that QR only and are not saved to your reusable library.

On paid plans (Premium, Business, Enterprise), when “Uploads to library” is enabled, files go into your library for reuse. Caps: up to 40 logos and 20 loading images.

You can turn off library saving per file type — then the file is used only for the current QR.

Dynamic QR and analytics

Can I edit a QR code after creating it?

It depends on the QR code type:

  • Static — content cannot be changed; create a new code
  • Dynamic — edit content anytime without reprinting

Dynamic QR benefits:

  • Update the landing page after print
  • Scan analytics (history depth depends on plan)
  • Optional GPS map tracking for codes in a Business/Enterprise workspace with organization name
Changing the content type

The current dynamic QR content and uploaded files (images, PDF, video, etc.) are permanently removed after you save the new type.

Clearing full statistics and analytics for the QR code (scan history, charts, geography, etc.) and resetting the scan counter is possible only if you enable the checkbox Delete statistics and analytics for this QR code when changing type on this step. By default it is off — statistics are kept.

Can I reset scan statistics?

Yes. For dynamic QR codes, open the QR analytics page, use the card menu and choose Reset statistics: you can clear all accumulated scan data at any time (charts, geography, devices, history). The counter on the card resets to zero. This cannot be undone.

For QR codes in a workspace, only workspace administrators can reset statistics; for personal QR codes, the owner can.

What happens when I reach the monthly scan limit?

Dynamic QR scans are counted per account each month:

  • Starter — 1,000
  • Premium — 50,000
  • Business — 250,000
  • Enterprise — unlimited

If the monthly cap is reached, affected dynamic QR codes are paused for scanning until the next month (or until you upgrade). Static QR codes are not limited by this scan quota.

Are there character limits for QR codes?

The QR code standard supports up to several thousand characters depending on data type. More data means a denser, more complex code.

Recommendations:

  • For long URLs use a dynamic QR that points to a short destination you can edit later
  • For large texts or files — create a dynamic QR with PDF, image, or link type
  • WebQR automatically selects the optimal QR version for best scanning

Features and tools

What are workspaces?

Workspaces are for team collaboration on QR codes. Available on Business (up to 10 workspaces, 25 members each) and Enterprise (up to 50 workspaces, 50 members each).

Features:

  • Shared space for your team
  • Roles: owner, admin, editor
  • Shared QR codes, folders,
  • Shared analytics; GPS map tracking for workspace dynamic QR (organization name required)

Starter and Premium users can join a workspace as members but cannot create their own workspaces.

How does GPS tracking work?

GPS map tracking shows approximate scan locations on a map. It is available only when all of these are true:

  • the QR is dynamic
  • it belongs to a workspace (not a personal QR)
  • the workspace owner has an active Business or Enterprise subscription
  • the workspace has an organization name set

Personal QR codes on any plan do not get GPS tracking. Use GPS only where location consent and local rules allow it.

Can I use a custom domain for QR codes?

Yes on Business (up to 5 verified hostnames) and Enterprise (up to 50). Starter and Premium do not include custom domains.

After you add a domain in the dashboard and verify DNS (CNAME), you can serve dynamic QR pages on your own hostname (for example qr.yourbrand.com).

Can I create many QR codes at once?

Yes — bulk create from CSV is available on paid plans:

  • Premium — up to 100 rows per run, 5 runs per month
  • Business — up to 500 rows, 20 runs per month; bulk ZIP download (PNG, JPG, SVG, PDF, EPS)
  • Enterprise — up to 2,000 rows, unlimited runs; bulk ZIP download

Starter does not include bulk create. Bulk ZIP download of generated files is Business and Enterprise only.

Can I password-protect a dynamic QR page?

Yes. Dynamic QR pages can use password protection so only people with the password can open the content. Configure it in the QR settings in the dashboard.

Can I schedule or pause a dynamic QR code?

Schedule: set a start and end date/time (with timezone) so the page is available only in that window. Outside it, visitors see a schedule message and scans are not counted.

Pause: manually pause an active dynamic QR anytime — visitors see a pause page and new scans are not recorded. Resume when ready. (Separate from the automatic pause when the monthly scan limit is reached.)

Both options are available on all plans for dynamic QR codes.

Can I connect Google Analytics, GTM, or Meta Pixel to a QR page?

Yes, for dynamic QR landing pages (not redirect-only types like plain URL or Instagram). In the builder, open the Statistics settings and add GA4, Google Tag Manager, and/or Meta Pixel IDs.

Scripts load on the public page with cookie consent (analytics for GA4/GTM, advertising for Meta). Available on all plans. GTM replaces the standalone GA4 snippet when both are set.

Can my dynamic QR pages appear in search engines?

Indexing is off by default. You can turn it on or off from the Premium plan and above. If the plan goes back to free, the switch locks and indexing that is already on stays on.

Which logo format is best for print and advertising banners?

For high-quality printing, large formats, and advertising banners, upload your logo in the center of the QR code as SVG. It is vector-based, so it scales without blurriness or loss of sharpness. WebQR supports SVG, PNG, and JPEG for logos.

PNG and JPEG remain a solid choice for the web and smaller layouts; for the sharpest logo at any size, prefer SVG when you have a source file.

Static QR API

What is the Static QR API?

The Static QR API generates static QR codes (SVG) via HTTP for integrations and automation. It does not create or manage dynamic QR codes in your dashboard.

Use an API key from the cabinet. Full docs are on the API documentation page. Endpoints include generation and usage.

What are Static QR API quotas and pricing?

Included generations per calendar month:

  • Starter — 200 (1 active key)
  • Premium — 5,000 (5 keys)
  • Business — 25,000 (15 keys)
  • Enterprise — 50,000 (30 keys)

After the included quota, overage is $2 per 1,000 generations. You can set a monthly spending cap (default $10). Rate limits also apply per plan.

QR code scanner

How do I scan a QR code online?
Open the WebQR online scanner, upload a QR image (drag and drop or choose a file) or switch to the Camera tab and point your webcam at the code. Results appear instantly — URL, text, vCard, Wi‑Fi, and more in a clear layout, with one-click Copy. Scanning needs no account. With an account, save the QR to your dashboard and manage it alongside all your other codes.
How do I scan a QR code on iPhone?
For a code in front of you: open the built-in Camera app (iOS 11+), point at the QR code, and tap the banner at the top.

For a screenshot or saved photo, open the WebQR scanner in Safari, use the Upload image tab, and pick the image from Photos — no extra app needed.
How do I scan a QR code on Android?
Most phones (Android 8+) read QR codes with the default camera or Google Lens.

For a screenshot or saved image, open WebQR in Chrome and upload the file — decoding runs in the browser with no install.
Can I scan a QR code without an app?
Yes. The WebQR scanner runs in your browser — no install. Scanning works without an account; to save codes to your dashboard, sort the list, and use folders, sign up free. Works in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge.
Can I scan a QR code from a picture or screenshot?
Yes — it is one of the main use cases. Upload PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, or BMP: a screenshot, photo, or web image. Results show in the panel (vCard, Wi‑Fi, etc. as labeled fields, not a text blob). Copy in one click or save the QR to your dashboard — it joins your full list with sorting and folders.
How do I scan a QR code on a laptop?
Open the WebQR scanner in your laptop browser.

Upload image — drag and drop a QR image or choose a file on the Upload image tab.

Webcam — open the Camera tab, allow access, and scan a physical code in real time.
How do I scan a Wi‑Fi QR code on a laptop?
Upload the Wi‑Fi QR image to the WebQR scanner. You will see the network name (SSID), security type, and password as separate fields — handy for connecting your laptop without copying from a phone.
Why is my QR code not scanning?
Common reasons:

• blurry or low-resolution image — use a sharper photo or a larger screenshot;
• incomplete code — the full QR and quiet zone must be visible;
• heavy styling or damage — too much of the pattern may be unreadable;
• glare when filming a screen — upload a screenshot instead.

WebQR retries decoding at several scales — try another image or the camera tab.
Is WebQR safe? Are my images uploaded?
Yes, for private scanning: decoding runs in your browser with JavaScript — images and QR content are not sent to our servers for recognition. Nothing leaves your device until you choose Save, which stores the code content you confirm in your account.
What does WebQR offer after scanning?
WebQR is not just a one-off scanner — it is part of a full QR platform:

• Save to dashboard — “Save this QR code” after a scan; it appears in QR codes with everything else.
• Sorting — by name, date created, and date updated.
• Folders — group saved and created codes.
• Search and filters — find the right QR quickly.
• Copy scan results on the scanner page.
• Readable results — vCard, Wi‑Fi, and more shown as fields, not raw text.
• Edit content — dynamic QR codes can be updated without reprinting.
• Design — colors, logo, module shapes in the builder.
• Analytics — for dynamic QR: scans, devices, regions.
• Download — PNG, SVG, PDF, and more.

Troubleshooting

Why won't my QR code scan?

Most common causes of scanning problems:

  • Low print quality — blurry or distorted images
  • Insufficient contrast — dark code on dark background
  • Small size — code too small for the camera
  • Damage — scratches, folds, dirt
  • Poor lighting — glare or shadows on the code
  • Outdated app — update your QR scanner

Solution: Use high resolution when printing, ensure good contrast and sufficient code size.

QR code not displaying on page

If the QR code doesn't appear after creation, try:

  • Refresh the page — press F5 or Ctrl+R
  • Check internet connection — ensure stable connection
  • Clear browser cache — Ctrl+Shift+Delete
  • Try another browser — Chrome, Firefox, Safari

If the problem persists: Contact support with your browser and OS details.

Cannot download QR code

Download issues are usually related to browser settings:

  • Check download settings — are automatic downloads allowed
  • Try right-click — "Save image as..."
  • Check downloads folder — file may already be downloaded
  • Temporarily disable antivirus — it may block downloads
  • Use incognito mode — to rule out extension interference
Forgot account password

Recovering access to your WebQR account:

  • Use the recovery form — on the login page
  • Check email — the message may be in spam
  • Verify email address — ensure it's correct
  • Wait 5–10 minutes — emails may be delayed

If the email doesn't arrive:

  • Add [email protected] to your contacts
  • Check Spam and Promotions folders
  • Contact support with your email address
How do I contact support?
